So yesterday doing research on my current 2x6 rafter tails on a 6/12 pitch in my roof line to set up tail extensions next year, I fabricated a template. Where the red arrow is , is where the current fascia board is at. I figured once the fascia is pulled, I will be able to get more heel cut surface. and input is appreciated.

I think most carpenters place the apex of the birdsmouth triangle at ⅓ the width of the rafter but you will have to match the original.

So in a update , I exposed and put back together after the fact rafter access from the outside, and created a 2x6 template and I now have a actual angle. It is 30 degrees, with is actually a 7/12 pitch and it fits like a glove. Now I have a reliable template.

I had to build it from the outside to get the most accurate measurement.
