My 70 y.o. house has all casement windows and I am starting my son in on replacing the many cranks that are broken. While I typically lubricate moving parts where possible, is this a case where I shouldn't? Using grease on the gear of the crank handle seems like it will be OK, as not too much dust can get to it, but where the crank arm slides in a track on the bottom of the window it is open to the air and any petroleum lubricant would attract dust and gum up. What do you think?

I think I used a silicone spray the last time I lubed.

I've used this for years, manna it's available in several varieties; HOME

I have access to a can of the non-silicone formulation of Slipit. The can says "attracts less dust" but it is a petroleum product so I am skeptical - but I also don't want to buy the silicone variety if this will work. Have any of you tried the non-silicone Slipit and, if so, did it have a dust problem? Thanks.

I use it specifically, because I use it on saws as well as other bladed tools.

My DIL has a different cleaner for every room and every surface.

ME, "A", commercial cleaner, water and a rag.

I LOVE "the KISS principle".
