I removed a wall between 2 rooms to combine them. For some reason one of the rooms had 2 layers of the drywall type backer board for the plaster while the other room has just one. Obviously I now have 2 different ceiling heights (about ½ inch). Any suggestions for making the transition look as good as possible? I would rather not knock one down or add another layer to the low side if I can find a decent transition method. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

well.....

I would add another layer to the higher ceiling.

You don't want to do that.

It wont look right (I doubt) but you can try.

You will need to use a LOT of mud and feather the joint as wide as possible.

Ugh, no, dont even go there. just add some drywall and be done with it. It will be much faster and look the best. It may even be the cheapest route.

If you don't mind a transition piece, you could take a board and router out a 1/2" of it down the middle and nail it into place. This may help make the height difference less noticeable.
