I have put a coat of Cabot Mahogany Flame Australian Timber Oil on my newly built PT deck. It states to only put one coat on but a test area that I put a second coat on looks much better (not dull looking). I have also been told that I can put a water base clear coat over the Cabot. I hate to brush on a second coat of the same stain as the deck is 1500 sf. Any suggestions on clear top coats.
Thanks!

No responses since July, so I'm sure you've found a solution and gone with it. But, in case someone else searches for an answer in the future. My experience with oil based products has been that on new decks the wood is pretty "thirsty", so a second coat is almost always needed. I usually recommend my customers do two coats for the first two years, and then as needed. As far as clear coats, I don't use them, just prefer the look of oiled wood.
