Cool video - Repairing underground power cables is nearly impossible

Found this while looking for another engineering related video. I had never seen main transmission lines buried, normally for the high voltage stuff they go above ground on towers and only bury the lines into the neighborhoods. From the generation plant to the sub stations it is normally above ground. Anyway, this video goes into the repair of one of the underground ones in LA back in the 1980s. Tech has improved since then, but the basic laws of electricity have not.

I have not read of many underground main lines, but underwater main lines are pretty common. What is interesting is that today, a lot of them (at least the longer distance ones) are DC.
