Hello, I'm wondering if this is a serious thing or a simple patch up job. I appreciate any info on how to approach.

Hello, I'm wondering if this is a serious thing or a simple patch up job. I appreciate any info on how to approach.
I’m not a pro but will welcome you to the forum and also offer my 2 cents.

It looks like what we see in the photos is a previous repair where someone skimmed on a half-inch or so over a foundation crack.

I would chip away at that coating layer and see what it is covering (the real problem).

Is there a basement so that you could get a look from the inside?

Is there any sign above that area where the bricks have shifted or any signs of the foundation dropping in that corner?

Hi thanks for the welcome. There is no basement, it’s a concrete slab foundation. There is no other signs of structural cracks in that corner of the house, just right there on the corner of the slab.

Not there to see it on site, but my guess would be it was caused from an improper footing being pored.
It's not the end of the world and your house is not going to fall down.
If it was mine I'd use a brick chisel to chip away that parging, and use a 4" right angle grinder with a diamond blade to grind out the joints and fill them hydraulic cement and parge over the repair.

Thank you all for the help. I’m more of a woodworker. So first thing for me is to look into this parging you talk of. Thanks I’ll do a bit of research.

Looks like somebody did a pretty fair job of patching it already. I would just leave it.
