Hi Everyone,

I have a wire similar to on image below: its rating is 14/76. I assume that it has 14 strands of 0.0076 inch diameter wire.

What could be current capacity of this wire? is there any formula to calculate it?

thanks

If those sizes and conductor count are correct that wire would have a cross sectional area of .41 sq mm.

.0076/2 = .0038R .0038x.0038 = .00001444 x 3.1416 = .00004536 x 14 = 000635 sq in.

or .41 sq mm.

If you look up that square millimeter size on a wire chart or calculator you get roughly 26 AWG wire equivalent.

The amount of current will depend on the length and resistance and other factors, but if my figures are correct you will be in the .5 to 1.0 Amp range.

You can confirm the strand size with measurements with micrometers and count the strands.

Others will be along that may have access to specs on that wire nomenclature. That’s my guess at this point.

Welcome to the forum.

Or else that's an SWG spec on the wire size. Where are you? -- where did you get the wire ?
