hi -
TIA for any advice on this -- I have a ceiling fan I just installed smart switches for in my son's bedroom (as pictured -- one switch controls the fan on/off/speed, and the other controls the ceiling fan light). I want to add 4 recessed lighting cans in the room, and a separate smart switch to control the recessed lighting, but there are two studs close together (about 4" apart, as pictured, on both sides of the hole). I am wondering if it is wise/safe to partially cut out the stud on the left in order to accommodate the third switch, all in a row. It's just an attic upstairs above the bedroom, the studs are 2x4's, and I assume the remainder of the wall is 16" OC as usual.
Appreciate the help...!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I don't see any junction box in the wall yet. it looks like you will need a J-box with size to hold 3 switches and that looks like it will be quite a bit wider.
