I bought a 70 pint Dehumidifer for my 900SQF basement, only about 500 SQF is finished, I set it at 45% and I think it ran all night, and the bucket was almost full this morning. I have never had moisture problems in the past that I am aware of, but my question is...Do they run longer the first few days if you have never ran one before?

This depends entirely on the amount of moisture being introduce into the environment daily. If you live in a very humid environment and the basement is not well insulated or there is a water leak than it's likely that it will continue to run frequently.

As you'd expect though, if the environment is not seeing any introduction of new moisture then the unit will only have to work to bring the moisture down to the set humidity. Afterward it should not need to run nearly as regularly to maintain the set humidity.
