I am enclosing my backyard with a fence. I was thinking of having a garden around the perimeter to look nice. However, we got a puppy (hence enclosing the back yard) and I am concerned she will either eat or destroy whatever is planted.

I am looking for plants that are not toxic to dogs, but also ones she will leave alone.

I am in Northern Ontario with clay/sandy soil.

Sounds like a hedge is in your near future ;)

How big is this dog? I would think trampling of the plants will be your biggest concern. Also what breed? Some are more apt to eating everything while others seem to mind their own.

She is a husky/border collie/Sheppard mix. Right now she is as my knees and she is 5 months old.
