Can someone please describe how I could fix this, and what tools and items I may need. Too small a job to get a serious carpenter for.

Sometimes you need to fill in the bad area and drill new holes and then use longer screws. Sometimes you can relocate the bracket a little bit to get the holes over an undamaged area. Take it off and get another pic and we can go from there.

Put in some 3 1/2 inch deck screws.
They will reach deep enough to grab the intact stud behind the damaged door jamb.
