I am putting in a bathroom in an area of my basement that has a concrete floor with small bumps, old epoxy and a spot where the original oil tank for the heater resided - tile would be uneven unless i put a really thick layer of thinset. Tiling the bathroom area while the remaining 200 sf will be cork with a heavy pad. So my question is should I rent a concrete grinder or use leveling cement where I'm tiling (I am also putting in a radiant floor and a curbless shower) so the floor has to be perfectly smooth in the bathroom area. A heavy pad will be enough under the cork.
I have a plumber coming in @ 3 weeks to lay pipe to connect the toilet and shower to the floor drain (sink already connected) and a mason following a few days later to do the shower pan and wondering if I should do my floor prep before or after.
Any tips appreciated!

Have you ever used a concrete grinder or applied a self leveling resurfacer before?

I rented and ran a grinder for a 20x30 concrete floor at our church. We tore out carpet, VCT, and some risers that were anchored to the floor and installed cork tile, so we needed a smooth surface clean of adhesives. We rented it at Sun Belt Rentals. It wasn't terrible to run. Ear protection highly recommended.

This is the one I'm going to rent: CONCRETE GRINDER MAGNA EC 2 HEAD Rentals Portland OR, Where to Rent CONCRETE GRINDER MAGNA EC 2 HEAD in Portland Oregon, Gresham, Beaverton, West Linn, Happy Valley OR, Vancouver WA
It has an attachment for my shop vac so hopefully that keeps the dust down. My area is not as big as yours but curious how long it took and what grit you used, the rental guy told me 18 grit would be best for my job.

We had a one day rental on it. I think we used it for about 4 hours. I don't remember the grit, they were blocks that were held into the head of the unit. Another guy rented it, I was mainly the operator.
