I've attached some pictures. The shower has 3 shower heads spraying water during a shower. I'd like to remove those 2 shower heads on the wall and block water coming from it. I'd prefer just 1 shower head above my head.

just get a 1/2 inch chrome female cap in chrome is possible or polished brass .

Should I use a vice grip or pliers to remove the shower heads?

Crescent, channel locks/water-pump pliers or vise grips will work. Wrap the threader nipple end clockwise prior to installing the cap.

The chrome nipple may also began to turn, is so, there are soft jaw covers made for channel locks, or, you can wrap then with electricians tape, to prevent damaging the chrome plating on the nipple.

I keep a piece of tire inner tube in my garage to keep from scratching the chrome on bathroom fixtures. A soft, thin leather belt also works great.

Take off the two side shower heads and put caps on the pipes to block the water. You can buy the caps at any hardware store for cheap. Just unscrew the shower heads, put some plumber's tape on the pipes, and screw the caps on. Done!

Will paper towels or face cloth work too? Or I'll just buy some soft jaw covers.

I would use something more substantial, that doesn't have a tear-out potential. HAVASAU recommended a leather belt, as another alternative. Just something handily available.

Why is the plumber's tape necessary if i may ask?

Another name for plumber tape is, teflon tape, of which, generally, are two types, white and yellow.

Generally, they are lubricants, and the while is commonly use for water applications, and the yellow is used for gas connections.
