How to remove rug tape residue

Has anyone successfully removed the residue left from rug tape from their hardwood floors without damaging the finish?
I have read conflicting reports of GooGone damaging the finish, so I don't want to risk it.
Is there something else that will work?

Without knowing what your floors have (wax, verithane, poly) I would recommend testing in an area not visible but to few.

i used this stuff called goo be gone . it is used to remove the adhesive left by tape such as duct tape . give it a try in a small spot

I've used regular ronson lighter fluid, but test first.
