Around 69 Weathershield windows, mostly casement, were installed in 2008. They were all pine wood, unclad. We had the new windows painted after installation in 2009 and again in 2016. Now we see rotting areas on a few of the window sills and brick mould (the exterior trim of the window that came with the windows). We want to replace the rotting window sills and brick mould with Azek PVC or other material – and we are wondering whether to replace the sills and brick mould on ALL the windows whether they need it now or not (to avoid future rotting). The window mechanisms themselves seem to be OK so we don’t want to replace the entire windows. What material is the best for replacement sills and brick mould – Azek or Versatex PVC or wood, and if wood what type of wood? Are there problems with PVC window sills because of expansion (we will not paint them or paint them white semi-gloss to reflect heat)? Does removing entire original window sills and replacing them with a substitute cause problems with opening and closing the casement windows? Is it wise to replace the window sills and brick moulding of all the windows, whether they need it now or not, or is it better not to fix if not broken?
