I am restoring the hardwood floors in a 1911 house...only problem is that there is a large hole (approx 2.5' by 2.5') in the middle of the floor (apparantly above where the old stove used to be). I would like to cover this with a decorative cast iron grate, but I can't find one large enough. Any ideas on where to buy this?? Thanks!

(Well, I did find some big enough, but they cost over $500!)

I would fabricate a grate from rebar and steel that would look old...

Find a weld shop near you.

I like the idea...but I've got quite a few other projects going on and I'm looking for something a little more quick and easy...and I'm not too crafty myself.

Welcome Dustmuss:
I would look at some of the recycle stores. They have some very unusual stuff and get more every day.
