Team Biden’s Internal Revenue Service (IRS) spent some $700,000 on firearm ammunition between March 1 and June 1, Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz said.

It seems that several thought to be unarmed agencies have been stockpiling both weapons and ammo. I am asking my representative , why?

This made me curious so I looked up whether IRS agents carry guns. The only thing I found besides news websites (which I never trust) was Quora (which I sometimes trust after scrutinizing closely). Do IRS agents carry firearms?

One guy is listed as having worked for the IRS, and says yes they do:
Just to clarify:
  1. Revenue Agents do not go "out to homes and businesses and knocking on doors, filing tax liens and conducting auctions to sell seized property". What she is describing there is a Revenue Officer.
  2. Revenue Agents (RAs) conduct tax audits;
  3. Revenue Officers (ROs) perform collections actions, such as seizing property;
  4. Neither RAs nor ROs carry guns.
  5. Special Agents of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) perform criminal investigations of alleged tax fraud. They carry guns and kick down doors because they are Federal Law Enforcement, just like the Special Agents at the FBI.
  6. When an RA uncovers what appears to be criminal tax fraud, he transfers the case to Special Agents in CID.
  7. When an RA or an RO needs an armed escort, it is not the Special Agents in CID who provide it.
  8. Armed escorts are provided by the equally well-armed Special Agents of TIGTA - the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration.
  9. TIGTA is a little tiny Agency whose sole mission is to prevent corruption at the IRS. In the old days, they were IRS Internal Affairs, but they were spun off so that now they report directly to the Secretary of the Treasury, and not to anyone at the IRS.
  10. People at the IRS are scared of TIGTA the way regular people are scared of the IRS.

So, given that there is an agency within the IRS (and another side agency as well) whose agents carry guns, it's not surprising they buy ammo. I don't know if $700K worth of ammo is a lot given the agency's size. How much do other similarly-sized armed agencies spend?

BTW I don't know why this gets called "Biden's" IRS, as if under previous administrations these agencies didn't exist or weren't armed. Mindkilled partisan reasons I guess.

I too wondered about 'Biden's IRS' does it mean only in 'his' administration it happened. I did read a similar report about the IRS purchasing shotguns during the Obama administration. I dunno but that's why I asked my representative. BTW one of the other agencies mentioned was NOAA so I think it's healthy to wonder and ask questions.

Journalism prefers dead brains, and turns live brains into dead ones for easier consumption. Careful out there, Eddie! Good instinct to ask your rep instead.

Their either stockpiling for a revolt or they will come shoot you if you don't pay your taxes?
WTH?

Yes, I think that's the interpretation the journalists were hoping people would get from the headline. Gets your attention.

Obama ordered the IRS to target conservatives during his first two terms, so I don't know why he would let up in his third term.

I have heard of other agencies buying ammo, it's under the guise that conservatives will attack the Government, which has never happened and never will.

Do you mean other agencies in general, or specific agencies you might name? And, where did you hear it?

A NOAA purchase of 46,000 rounds of.40-caliber ammo was one that I followed up on. It turns out that NOAA actually has an LEO organization (the Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement) with 63 officers.

Fm one of the links from Spicoli43 above.
<<a report from OpenTheBooks published in 2020, the IRS had stockpiled 4,600 guns and five million rounds of ammunition as of January 2019. >>
Thats 1000 rnds per gun!! Thats a WHOLE LOT of guns and ammo! Its interesting that during to obama administration, gov't agencies bought hundreds of thousands of rounds and now that biden (obama3) is in office, they're doing it again!!

I dated an IRS agent about 45 years ago... she cared a gun... I suppose for self protection from crazies... As a Govt. agent, she didn't want to go to any house parties where drug abuse might be occurring..
Some don't want us having over 5 round clips, because that isn't 'traditional' from when 2nd Amendment was passed... how many miniballs did they carry back then? 50? Plus a cowhorn of black powder...

Loaded and fired 1 at a time, not a clip of 50 fired in under 1 minute. BTW I don't care, I have a 50 shot clip for a. 22. Tons of fun.
