The little farmhouse we rent was built in 1952. When we turn on the tub or sink in the bathroom, the water runs rusty for a second or two before turning clear. Is this unhealthy? We shower with it and use it to brush our teeth. The kitchen sink is fine, it's never been rusty.

Most likely you still have some galvanized pipe that is causing the rust. The rust is not a hazard.

Talk to the owner about changing that section of pipe. it's better for you and better for him.

Not unhealthy but it clogs up the lines, destroys the fixtures and water heater, and there's always going to be rust stains on everything.
It will turn white clothes tan if you use a washing machine.
