We have an older Kenmore 70 series washer. It started making a loud buzzing/grating noise during the spin cycle, I can hear the pump going so I'm certain the motor is fine. I tried turning the drum by hand but it wasn't easy, not sure if that makes a difference or not.
From what I've been looking at it's 50/50 clutch or coupling...any ideas?

Hi Topher5150,
Grating sound during spin on my Matyag Bravos top load turned out to be the Direct Drive Motor-To-Basket Coupling. The noise was accompanied by the spin occasionally stopping while the motor was running. The part is nylon or plastic and simply wore out, thus it was slipping past the lugs into which it engages on the basket.

Perhaps the machines are similar and that is the problem with yours. (Maytag makes Kenmore.) If you go to RepairClinic Com or PartsSelect Com, they have lots of helpful articles and videos. And RepairClinic helps diagnose if you call with symptoms.

Changing the coupling was easy, but time consuming.
