Other than Callmevilla who cares, if someone agrees with what I have said they hit the button and I am notified. I would think that should make what I said carry more weight but if a new poster isn't aware of that detail, it does no good what so ever. The notification should also go the OP so it means something to the person that is asking the question. On occasion I have hit the button when I don't like an answer, I am just trying to make sure that person come back and read what I have to say about his post so I would like to see a "don't like this post" button:2cents:
I'm replying from my iPhone and I don't see a like button or I would like your post Neil. I actually thought about a not like button this morning on another thread. I don't know if that being public and counting up in your profile would be a good idea.
On the apps Go to the post you want to like and touch it. A menu bar appears across the top of the page, on the right there are 3 dots touch the 3 dots and more features, including LIKE appears. Then you touch the Like and it goes to the post you previously touched.
On my iPhone app if I touch the post I get quote, share, web view and flag. I do have the 3 dots and when I touch them I get reply, share, unsubscribe, web view, refresh and cancel. No like (
What if a “not like” took away a like? Or maybe something like the ERA in baseball or even batting average? For instance I have 357 posts and 102 likes that would give me a batting average of 286. That’s not an all-star number but fairly respectable. Each month the highest average could be featured on the front page or something. It might discourage spending too much time in the one word game thread though. Ok most of the above was tongue in cheek but I do enjoy getting the like email when I’m helpful to someone or just to know they read it as Neil pointed out. I also enjoy giving a good like from time to time, but I don’t think I have ever given a like for a not like post. Remember what mom said it’s better to give than receive!
People who give more likes or less likes than 'normal' can be picked out from the general forum memberships, to some level of certainty. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inter-rater_reliability
We wouldn't want that to happen, I still want to know how are all the people viewing the one word game. 10 or 15 for each word:clap:
Those of us who use Facebook are very familiar with the "Like" paradigm. It allows people to express gratitude or clear agreement. On this forum, I believe "Like" should be used when a response is valuable, taught you something, or demonstrated good effort to respond to the OP's problem. It is a way for all of us to feel better about going the extra mile for someone who needs help. It is a way for newbie's to payback for the free assistance. Think of it as this forum's version of "Please" and "Thank You" ... or "Nice Job!"
I really don't have many thoughts one way or another, if we have likes or don't have likes. What I'd like to see more of, is when a member comes on and posts a question, to see them come back and follow up if the info they got helped and have them update their projects. But, thats just me and my :2cents:
Aint going to happen. Before the interweb we would visit a few stores to ask questions or maybe visit a library for info, not because we were interested but because something didn't work and we needed it fixed, now. People will join a few of these forums for quick answers and when they think they have a good understanding, they're gone.
And hopefully they'll be back when the next difficult problem pops up, back to the forums or the people that helped them.
Neil and I agree to disagree a little on this point. Yes there are some who have that one and only problem. Come here ask the question get a answer and are gone. But there are also a lot of people that after looking around realize just reading these threads and hearing of others troubles and solutions realize that's something worth remembering and start getting more and more DIY bug. The third group I think I might fall into and that's I just enjoy reading about this stuff even though I have done it for 50 years. Learning new stuff and helping people with stuff I do know.
I'm a DIYer because I hate not being able to fix things myself. It bugs me, but typically I just get my wife and she figures it out. She can't cook, but she can fix anything!
