Lubricating a compound mitre saw

I ave had my saw outside, but under cover all winter as I worked on renovations inside. I have noticed that there are rust stains on the slide. Can I just lube it up, wipe it off and it be good? Does it matter what I use, or as long as it is clean oil, it should be ok?
