I just noticed that there is no metal cap underneath my sliding screen door like there is underneath my sliding glass door. There's just a very narrow rib that protrudes up and that the screen door rollers travel on. Is it normal to not have a cap under a sliding screen door? I'm asking because my screen door sounds kinda scratchy when I open and close it. I've cleaned the track and it is straight and even in the frame, and the rollers are new, and the door is correctly installed.

The door frame is supporting the weight of the glass and the roller system, and it's adjustments are for correct operation and alignment, some also have rollers at the top, which when correctly adjusted, prevent that panel from being lifted and displaced, allowing access.

The screen frame only supports screen fabric and the rollers are a balance, so I'd just apply some WD40.

Actually I just wanted to know if I installing a metal cap will reduce the skritchy-scratchy noise when I slide the screen door.

The rollers ride on an extruded ridge in the sill of the door frame, so were you to install a "U" shaped sleeve over the existing bottom rail of the screen frame, thereby eliminating the rollers, the screen would simply fall out of the door frame.

I've always found the WD 40, &/or, PB BLASTER worked to lube the rollers

I thought that if I installed a sleeve over the existing bottom rail of the threshold I could let the rollers ride on that.

However, you see, the results would be the same, although less dramatic. You see, the grove in the rollers track on the extrusion in the sill. If that extruded ridge in the sill is no longer smooth, then use some fine emory cloth or 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper.
