I finally got meter grounded an wanted to get the opinions of many before i talk w poco for power to be back on. There was a prexisting #4 copper off weatherhead neutral that i grounded to panel on left side ,already there. And a new#4 copper from ground rod to bottom of panel then lug at neutral bar. I also ran conduit but not shown in pic Also what was purpose of a #4 to neutral then meter off weather head entrance? Any info before inspected is appreciated
What would happen if you did have a short to ground there? But would it not be grounded if the mast was attached to the meter box?
The 3 utility conductors, and the cable tied to the service mast are call a service drop. Here on the truly left, nanny state, coast there is a ground conductor on the pole which is tied to the cable anchoring the service drop to the service mast, the service is them grounded to a driven ground rod. In over 40yrs, i've never seen the neutral from the service drop tied directly to ground. I'd ask the utility to have a look, as a courtesy, before you call for service.
Got Approved! Tech said its double bonded at meter, Even with that #4 terminated in meter ,on left, box so i guess its not a factor terminated in box vs terminated to ground Rod Yes many old homes had this set up w neutral wire feed .They never upgraded .
