We just bought a new house a year ago. We knocked out the hall closet next to the kitchen to build a space for the fridge. When we knocked it out, we realized the return vents went up behind the closet so we had to move them. A contractor put them ground level in the hallway in the wall space. I wonder if the air conditioner is working too hard to pull the air through because they are pretty small spaces. I would ask the HVAC company to put in another air return but now wondering if we could have voided our HVAC warranty by doing that?! We had no idea the air returns went up behind the hall closet until we ripped it all out.
Anyone have any experience with this? The HVAC company has no idea we moved it.
