Hi,
We purchased a 20 year old home 4 months ago and now have had our first heavy rain. Two picture windows began leaking at the upper edge. These are vinyl clad wood windows. I’ve installed windows but this particular style I am unfamiliar with. I attached two pictures. It seems that water is rolling around to the underside of the flashing onto the outer window frame and then through the seal. Would just apply clear silicon around the seam?
Thank you.

In the first photo it looks like the calking is missing in one spot between the window and the stucco. I would start there and also bend the flashing where it looks like it was bent a little.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi bud - crazy, I totally missed that. The ledge is taller than me and I held the camera up above my head to get the pic. I’ll recaulk that for sure. If that doesn’t stop do you think I could clear silicone the seams (pic below). Thanks.

Is that part of the window that opens or pulls in for cleaning?

It’s a fixed window. Look like it’s a style in unfamiliar with. It’s like the nailer and frame was mounted and then frame plus window was inset. I’ve noticed to seen windows quite like this. Definitely fixed though.

I suppose water could be making it past that seal and if the window never opens I don’t see a reason not to give that a slight bead of caulk to see if it helps. It could always be cut later with a razor if the window were to be broken and you needed to pull out the center to replace the glass.

One additional thought. i have tested different ideas of something leaking with a water hose and spray nozzle. You can try one area at a time and watch for water coming in. :coffee:
