Hello,

I have an old outdoor chiminea similar to this one,

Outdoor Wood Burning Chimenea

It has rusted some and I would like to paint it. Since all social gatherings at the moment are outdoors, I guess may be using this more that I thought I would in November.

My first guess would be to go over it with a wire brush wheel and then use Rust-Oleum high heat paint,

Rust-Oleum 7778502 Heat Protective Enamel Bar-B-Que Black

I would generally never put paint directly onto rusty metal without priming it first, but I think the primer would have to be high heat as well. The Rust-Oleum rusty metal primer that I have always used says nothing about being a high heat product.

Do I need to prime this first or can I just paint it with high heat paint? I am certainly open to other paint suggestions as well, though this is old enough that it is not worth $100 in paint to make it look a bit better.

The bottom (legs and ash pan) is galvanized so I was just going to leave it alone.

Thanks for the advice,

That paint is meant to be painted on with no primer.
