We need to replace our patio door. We currently have a center-hinged inswing door with a rough opening at 60Wx80H. We would really like to have a sliding door w/ screen so that we could keep it open and enjoy the breeze without using the space of an inswing door.

Our concern is that the 60"W slider would make the opening too narrow. We would rather not go through the trouble of installing a longer header. Does anyone have sliders of this width installed in their homes? If so, what are your opinions? Open to other suggestions as well.

    Thanks in advance, cheers!

Do you have sidelight panels? A picture would really help us understand if this is a patio door?

Since a 2'6" (+or-) sliding panel is unacceptable, your options are limited.

A single out swing with side lites is one, however that may also be in question depending upon the grade level just outside the door.

Describing that or including it in the photo would help.

Without pics, a split screen that meets in the middle may be your best option.

Rough opening is measured from stud to stud after the trim has been removed.

Thanks for all the replies. The width measurements are from stud to stud w/ trim removed and there are no sidelight panels. The door exits to the balcony/deck, which has no roof. Thinking we'll probably just replace with the same center-hinged type door.

I replaced a 5' window with Pella 5' slider. Initially, I had the same concerns about the width as the OP but it has worked out well.

If you are measuring 2 30" doors you rough opening will be more that 62". So remove trim on the inside and measure from stud to stud and you might find you can get a bigger window
