Plants, Trees or other methods of reducing road noise, dust, and smog

I bought a house that has it back yard next to a high traffic road. Is there any way to reduce road noise, dust and smog? I am thinking about planting some trees or put up a high fence and have vines to grow on the fence. What other things can I do?
