Point of chamfer cutout

I do not see the point of the chamfer on the cutout on the base?

The router bit would have to go under the base to even touch it?

Is this the post in question that is causing you to leave? I'm not sure I see what you're asking here as both questions are really statements. I've never built or used such a fence so I can't speak to the utility of the chamfer in the cutout. Maybe to allow the waste to clear out easier.

Maybe someone more familiar with the router fence has an answer.
