Thanks Eddy! One thing about pop corn removal is that if the texture has been painted, the Pop Eeze doesn't work very well. It's because the paint is much harder than the original texture material.Ron,it looks like Pop Eeze worked well. I don't have popcorn but have a slight texture that I prolly wouldn't be able to easily match if I had to do ceiling work so I'll keep Pop Eeze in mind.

Despite the double top plate, I'm guessing this wasn't a load bearing wall. The double 2x4 above the door was really just a nailer for the door trim. Had it been a load bearing wall, it would have needed a header above the door. Unless I'm missing something else, not sure what you see as a problem.Ron, I can't help but notice that on the wall you took down, it seems the jack studs were incorrectly installed.
You're correct. It is not a load bearing wall. It just looked unusual. Doesn't matter, just my perspective.
