I have been offered a tank of what I ahve been told is R22 for a great price.

Is there any way to verify what I am getting truly is R22?

You need a license to buy & sell R22. If this tank is being sold by someone w/o license, that would lead me to question the credibility of the contents. The tanks are color coded per the contents and not reusable. R22 comes in a light green tank.

thanks for the info.

The tank the seller showed me was not color coded. it just had a sticker stating it was R22. Any physical way to tell if it really is the real thing??

Unfortunately, there is no feasible means of telling weather or not it's R22 or otherwise.
The other caveat would be that he is selling recovered freon, in which case it got evac'd into a grey tank w/a yellow top.
If it's not R22 and you use it in an R22 system you'll damage the system.
I wouldn't take the chance unless I recovered it personally, it's just not worth the risk.
