Removing decorative (?) posts

We have these posts along two sides of the living room, and my wife wants them gone. I'm almost positive these aren't lode-bearing and are totally safe to take out, but figured it'd be smart to see if people here agree.

What's the recommended way to remove them?

Here's what they look like along the half-wall separating the living room from the dining room:

We use to have the same ones, they're gone now.

Any tips on removing them? Or is it pretty much how it looks?

I cut them in the middle and pryed out the sections as best as possible to not cause more damage. Patched the spots where they were nailed and am glad their gone.
