Hi,

I purchased a rehabbed home a little over a year ago and one of my bathroom sink vanity lights went out. I attempted to open it up and replace the bulb to find that it's LED and seems to be hard wired. Do I have to buy an entire new fixture or can I replace the lights?

Thanks

Replace the fixture and if you want a challenge, attempt to repair the replaced fixture.

Great thanks! I had a feeling I had to replace it. I've just had a hard time finding the same one and it's twin sinks so I'll have to replace both of I can't find it.
I like what you're thinking, I think I will try it repair it as a project/challenge!

That's called integrated LED. Yep, you replace the whole fixture. But the box probably said its expected to last 20,000 hours or something like that. I guess they were wrong. I refuse to buy a fixture that does not have a replaceable bulb. And a bulb that is a standard, common size, not proprietary.

Yeah I was pretty annoyed to find that it was not a replaceable bulb. The builder also did it to me in the recessed lights. They are at least ready for a bulb but are currently wired in plastic LEDs.

I bought my house in 2013 and replaced every bulb with LED. In that time, I've only had a few bulbs go bad. One that was on an old garage door opener Once that opener went, I replaced with rubber band type and rubber mounted everything I replaced the other two previously and also rubber mounted them. The LEDs in these have not gone out.

I also put three of these in our closet:

These are nice, because they produce light "outward" instead of "downward".

I also bought this to test in our bedroom:

Would put in four of these, if I had the time. Too many other projects right now.

While I like having just a "bulb", the new LED fixtures last a long, long time.

I'm glad the LED have worked well for you!. I've used them other places and have been happy, but they have mostly been LED bulbs. But having to replace two fixtures instead of one bulb definitely turned me off integrated LED
