Retractable awning- motor only works in one direction

First time on the site.
I have a Solair retractable awning that is 20 or so years old (my guess). Currently when I press the button for the awning to go out, it doesn't do anything. After pulling it out manually with the crank, I am able to retract it via the switch. This has been going on for over a year. This weekend the switch and am still having the same issue. Motor sounds fine and functions well, but only in one direction.
Thoughts?

Not an expert, but it sounds to me like a wire came loose from the motor.

If the switch is hard wIred (not remote control), the loose or broken wire might be at the switch.

What do you mean by "motor sounds fine" ? ----- Can you hear the motor running but the awning is not moving ?
