I've been told I can't remove the door from a fiberglass exterior prehung door and have it work in an existing opening without the casing that came with it. I want to remove it from the casing and just mount it in the existing opening, either with the supplied hinges or my own hinges.

Can anyone tell me the reason this wouldn't be possible if the doors are the same size and thickness?

Can I mount hinges in fiberglass, i.e., in new drill holes?

I think you are referring to the door jamb, not the door casing, which is a molding dressing up the product for a decorative finish.

You're best results will be in removing the door with the hinges attached and installing the assembly, intact, in the existing location, accomplishing any necessary repairs to the existing jamb.

If it is a pre hung, the hard wear will not line up. Maybe better if you tell us why you wouldn't change the whole unit?
