Rezoning Question

The property that we are interested in sits on 5 acres right on the outside of town. Our area is developing quite rapidly. According to a plan on our city's website the future use for this land is listed as medium density housing.

My question is, if we purchase the home can the city force us off the property or to give up our 5 acres for their use. We'd like this to be the last stop, but wondered how that all worked. FYI- it is currently zoned Agricultural (A-1)

Thats kind of what I was afraid of. I put an email into the city and asked. I figured since the area will still be used for residential purposes, they might be willing to negotiate. Im obviously biased, but that does seem like a HUGE violation of rights.
