Rotting Door Frame

The frame on one of my exterior doors has rotted in two corners. The door is fine. Is it always necessary to replace the door and frame together? Would doing so be less labor than just the frame?

Also, any suggestions for a replacement door and needed? Anything decent under $500?

Depending upon how tight the door frame is set to the house framing, you may be able to just do the repair.

Most often when I see this the jambs and brick molding are rotten because there wooden.
You can buy a new door with PVC brick molding, composite lumber used at the bottom of the jambs and never have to deal with this again.

It requires a little disassembly, but you can repair and/or replace the jamb. They have vinyl jamb parts that won't rot out. If you use wood, prime all the wood before installing, especially the ends. Same with installing a new door. The bottom of prehung door frames are raw cut wood and this is where the rot starts. They also make new door frames with a Trex like material for the bottom foot or so of the jambs.
