Rug cleaning

Hi, I have a light-colored rug that has some sound-in spots. Very tough to get out. If anyone has tactics, I'd love some advice.

Sometimes vigorously rubbing baking soda on the spots, then vacuuming lifts the dirt off. The dirt, especially if oily, gets picked up by the baking soda.
