Scratches on new cultured vanity top

Yes, I bought a cheap vanity. I was perfectly willing to spend more, but this was the only thing that fit our configuration.
It has 2 scratches in the cultured top.
Has anyone ever successfully repaired/removed/camouflaged scratches in one of these?

I have read the "theories" - 1000-2000 grit wet sandpaper, auto compound, wool buffers, etc... but I'd really love to hear from anyone who has actually done it.

Try toothpaste. It may have just enough abrasion to do the trick. Place some on a rag, and try to rub it out.
