Shower Wall Repair/Update

We recently had some plumbing work done behind our shower wall, and the plumber had to cut a hole in the wall to do the repairs. I am now wanting to repair this hole at the very least, but I am thinking about re-tiling the whole wall too. How would you recommend doing this? Another option I’m considering is cutting a strip up the wall and tiling a different color the width of the current hole all the way up to the ceiling. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on how to go about this? How to make a repair of the wall hole first of all? What kind of board to put behind the tile to cover the plumbing?

Before doing anything I'd get that spout to set at a right angle to wall.
In order to attach anything to cover over this, there must be something in the wall to attach it to, EG: a 2 X 4.

I see. Where would you suggest putting the 2x4? Also, any recommendations on what to put over that?

I had a similar situation a couple years ago. I had to replace the valve, couldn't find tile to match, so I scabbed a 2x4 to the studs, cut a piece of hardi board to fit. Installed a couple pieces as close to match. The plan was to remodel the bath eventually. Along came Corona and time. I gutted the entire bath to the studs and did a complete remodel.
