Hi all. I am at a place in my fireplace remodel where I need to create a smooth and level surface for the granite installers. I have removed some hardwood flooring to make the hearth size code compliant. I was wondering the best way to float a new surface. Just mortar or maybe self leveling concrete?
I want to add about 1/2" to the existing surface..

Thanks, Rick

I don't think self-leveling compound will go 1/2" deep so mortar is my vote.

Mortar is going to be your best bet; the depth looks a little short, is that to code?

Code says 21" depth for 6 sq ft opening. I am at 6.85. Just my luck.
Yea I think I will go with the mortar bed.

Thanks all!!
