STOP BURNING UP SNOWBLOWER BELTS!

OK, I learned something useful today. If you are burning up snowblower belts, you might want to get some 40 grit sandpaper and burnish the drive pulley(ies) with it. I went through 2 sets of belts in the past two snows, and was beside myself on why the belts kept sliding on the pulley, even though the snow in the machine should have been manageable. Well it looks like the old drive pulley had a sufficient coating of rust and rubber, to prevent the new belts from grabbing very well. I happened to do this little operation after taking off the belts and starting the engine, but if you're not used to working around running machines that will take your fingers off, sandpaper the pulley groove with the engine off,...and no belt attached, of course!

Good idea, my TroyBilt chipper mulcher eats belts. I will try this along with an industrial belt rather than a fan belt from the auto parts store.
