I just had a small bathroom renovated. Hurricane Irene caused leakage through the chimney flashing which is above the bathroom. The leak caused bubbling along a trail app. 2 1/2 feet along the ceiling in one line and a 4" long trail of bubbling paint down the wall. The bubbling contained water I have since punctured the bubbles alowing the water to escape. The flashing is fixed. The sheetrock is mold resistant green board. Can I just let the sheetrock dry and then patch or do I have to take it down. There is no insulation over the ceiling trail nor behind the wall as it is an inside wall.

I'd remove any unbonded paper (outside drywall layer), skim a coat of new mud on the affected areas, prime coat and texture/paint as needed to match.

I would cut a few holes to let it dry out for a week or so and then replace the pieces that you cut out.
