Hi,

Our basement sliding door leaks during heavy rains. Water leak through the sliding door frame & the board above the door and get into the basement. Though the amount of water getting in is not significant but it is still annoying. I am not quite sure what caused this. But I think this most likely due to previous owner installed a vinyl deck, and there might be a wood deck before the replacement. This might be a by-product/effect of the deck installation(not sure how long ago.) I tried to use some silicone gel to seal the siding right above the sliding door but it does not work. Any idea on how I may solve the issue? I have attached some picture to show the sliding door and to show what is the leak looks like.

Thank you!

Your have a bunch of issues going on there.
That door should have had Z molding, above it, I likely would have used starter strip instead of J molding, that calking you applyied is going to do more harm then good.
That ledger above it was likely not flashed correctly, if it was the water would be dripping out away from the area below.
Please post some pictures of the deck above that area.

Thanks for the reply. Here are some pictures of the deck.

That's about what I expected to see.
In your area I'd have to guess by code that deck should have been built at least 6" below that door opening.
No way should that decking have been installed up under the siding like that, it should have been ran up to the siding, with a gap.
I'd bet if you pulled that lower siding off you'll see some rot behind it.
By far this used to be one of my biggest money makers fixing these one building 101 mistakes.

Is there anything I can do to fix the problem? Thanks

I'd start at the top and work my way down.
At least the first row of siding and decking closest to the house would have to be removed to see just how bad it is and what they left out for flashing when it was built.

Are you referring the siding right above the deck? Thanks
