It's a condensate pump.
Ever notice how a cold drink form moisture on the outside?
Any A/C unit does the same thing, the moisture drips into a pan, the pan drains to that pump, and the water get's pump out someplace.
It could be outside, to a floor drain, plumbing drain line.
 
Correct.

And also, a modern gas furnace generates water from the burning gas.
Also, if you have a humidifier, they usually have a constant trickle of drain water while they are running.
