While out shopping for ingredients for Shawarma wraps, I ran into Organic Potatoes, $2.89 for a 5 lb. bag. That's the cheapest they have been in Years, so the need to make Clam Chowder became immediate. I then forgot the Celery and Clams.

I tried to convince people that we would have a Shawarma and Mejadra Rice Thanksgiving, and that didn't go over so well. Most haven't replied. I get bored with the same old Thanksgiving and Christmas sides. I like Turkey now that I know the upside down trick, but I could go the rest of my life without the Green Bean Crunchy Onion casserole.

I love turkey at Thanksgiving and Christmas! I can’t wait but it IS a huge amount of work for such a short meal. The clean up is heinous! There will probably be 7 people here for turkey dinner this year…same as last year. And then turkey sandwiches for days afterwards.

Shan, kitchen is looking good. Your son sounds like my brother. Anytime he actually deigns to help me with something he gets impatient. Most of the time I get "I'm too tired", "I don't feel like it" or "You have two hands" when I ask for help. Hope you can get rid of the rats. My cats catch the rats that get inside so the problem is mice in places the cats can't get to. If you don't have cats, peppermint oil is a good repellant to use. Safe for dogs (not for cats) and rats, mice, and roaches hate it. it actually kills roaches if you spray them with it. I get this stuff and put it in a spray bottle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071J8GQCJ

PJ, I haven't seen AFCI outlets sold locally. Friend did get the GFCI ones and install. He bought one of the outlets from the local hardware store but it was a dud. They have a no refunds policy now- - too many people using stuff and then returning. The owner would probably give a refund, but the other employees won't. My mother was born in Detroit. Her family ended up moving to San Diego later though.

Spicoli, Yeah, I tried to warn him that it wasn't a good idea but he insisted on fixing it up so it can pass inspection. The one good bit of news is that bc he paid for the previous inspection on the other house, the bank is covering this one. He's replaced all of the outlets and switches, put on new cover plates, fixed some plumbing, replaced some stained/damaged ceiling tiles, painted, and is waiting for the former tenants to come clear the rest of their stuff. There's a king size bed, an ugly trunk, and some photos/personal stuff. But apparently they don't have a truck. Bank pre-approved the loan but friend needs to jump through a few hoops still. Hoping they won't care about the condition of some of the out-buildings. Friend will NOT be telling his grandfather where he moved.

Ron, the repaired clock looks nice!

I got hit with fatigue pretty badly for a few days and haven't been online much. I need to take my truck to the shop on Monday to get the CV axle looked at. Gonna see if they can replace the struts (new ones just came in). About to take my afternoon nap.

Edited to add some stuff. This is a pic of part of the kitchen in the house my friend is fixing up.

This whole kitchen is getting gutted pretty much but friend wanted the outlets and switches to pass inspection. Blank plate was over an outlet that wasn't needed. Cabinets are solid wood so might get recycled. Friend is giving me the drawer/door pulls.
Sink won't drain bc the trap arm goes up instead of down, but the J-bend is long enough that it can be moved up. Bottom of cabinet needs to be fixed but otherwise things are ok. Doors on cabinets are crooked but that shouldn't be an issue.
What part of Detroit is your Mother from? Is she an east sider (booo) or a west sider (yay!)? Two very different worlds

Just A Hint:
For your friend's kitchen electrical, if it's being inspected by an electrical inspector be certain that none of those receptacle outlets are the only ones on a 20 amp kitchen small appliance circuit. Kitchens often have one receptacle outlet per circuit.

It if is the only outlet on a 20 amp circuit, the device has to be NEMA 5-20R. The ones in your photo are 5-15R. (Below is 5-20R)

Today is my midweek day off, I have the kitchen blocked off so that I can leave traps out. The rat is getting more comfortable with the ones in the kitchen. A saddle for him would be a good idea for quick transportation.

I figured out how to share a video clip.... so have fun lol

I am going to try to replace some drywall that's broken off in the living room so that I can stop the rat from coming in the living room. The larger hole opens up under the bathtub. It just keeps crumbling (from when my moms cats sprayed everywhere). Hopefully my back will loosen up here shortly while I am motivated.

That's why I can't stand it... If people were able to chow it all down and it was done that night, okay...

You could kneel by the hole with Oven mitts and wait, or you could borrow a Neighbor's Cat and block off the hole when you know the Rat is inside...

I'm sitting here watching a church service and see movement out of the corner of my eye and it was the rat.... so, now... back pain or not... my motivation just woke up, hopefully I can get that area fixed quickly

There's nothing like 80mph on your 2 wheeler, with your passenger holding a drumstick for you to munch on.

This was part of old mouse holes that were filled with the rodent foam stuff. The big hole on the left is where the rat popped out from earlier.... my moms cat could fit in there. The bathtub is behind that wall, and then the laundry room is behin the other end of the tub. The access door needs to be replaced as well as drywall removed and replaced because thats where it comes in and out from the crawlspace.20241124_110506.jpgheres my quick (not actually quick) demolition of all holes on this wall.20241124_141834.jpgand then we have my terrible cutting skills and rehanging drywall.20241124_152153.jpg

Now that i am disgustingly dirty, I am going to take ibuprofen shower, do laundry and sit on the heating pad for the rest of the night..... I may reward.myself with a pepsi for the heck of it..... I may make/eat dinner, I may not.

Stuck a fork in me my back is done.

@Spicoli43 i work 12 hour shifts the next 3 days, so there's not alot that I can do other than put out traps and hope it messes up amd steps in one. I put small pieces of slim Jim's in a couple of them to see if it was enticed to try to get a nibble. It took a week last March when I killed one, so I fully expect it to take at least that long this time also.

Ok, I get what you are saying. Maybe if you block the Rat off completely, it will move on and leave you alone... Or it will chew through the new Drywall... If there's no City / County ordinance against a .22, that could be an option. Just spitballing, but it's obviously smart enough to avoid the traps in your videos.

As far as your Back, are you sure it isn't Kidney related? My Kidney was bugging me the last 2 days so I fed it a lot of Burdock Root, Chanca Piedra (Stone Breaker Tincture), Magnesium and Dandelion Leaf, and it's fine now.

If you have never had a Kidney act up, it feels like you strained your Back.

I've had back problems for at least 5+ years from pulling, tugging and lifting on patients for almost 20 years and then retail work before that for 13 years.
I also have fibromyalgia, so once I start moving, I have to get everything done at once because I will be super stiff and in pain after I stop, even if it's just a few minutes of rest. It's quite aggravating.

I'm glad to hear that that helped your kidney pain. Pain in general just sucks, it steals your joy and motivation if you let it, and sometimes I forget that and let it.... I just heard squeaks and noise in the kitchen..... Probably caught another mouse.
A friend of mine said she was having rat problems currently. She lives about 4 miles away from me but we are both within 3/4 of a mile from the river. She said she also had never had problems with rats until this year.

A couple of pairs from a bowling league, out of the COVINA area. A lot of honks, and high beam flashes, down the 605 to SEAL BEACH.
The bowling alley near Northwoods Inn?

Umm!

Have you tried Acupuncture? There isn't anybody that has been a Ground pounder in the Military that doesn't have Back pain, similar to what you are doing in terms of lots of weight all the time on the Back and Joints. My Buddy that I served with (Over 50) did Acupuncture and he says he feels like he's 25 after a few sessions. You have joint problems also because of all the standing in both your Careers.

Have you heard of Chronic Fluoride Poisoning? I didn't know that link until now, but I don't have Fibro (That I know of)... I know I have Beat down and hit by a Bus, but don't have an official diagnosis... I just call it Elderly even though I'm in my 40's. Early Onset Elderliness due to the Career I picked... That sounds accurate.

We bowled at the location off of HACIENDA, next to the ROLLER RINK in WEST COVINA. Really random participant origin.

Variety's the spice of life.

As evidenced herein.
