We had an electric outage on Sunday. I fired up the generator and then we went to church.

This is the generator interlock device. I can't engage generator power unless the main is turned off.

After we got back home from church, I noticed that my neighbor had power but she has no generator. After investigating, I realized everyone had power restored except us. I called the electric company again and they sent the on-call guy right out.

1732815426786.png

He found that a "Second" fuse had blown. Apparently, whatever blew the fuse that services our street also blew the fuse for our transformer.

1732815520212.png

I really didn't know how these things work until he explained it to me, When the fuse blows, it swings down.

1732815844436.png

Inside that tube with the ring on it is the actual fuse. He replaced that and slammed it back in and everything was back to normal. He was extremely cheerful given that it was a Sunday and he was on call. He probably earned a ton of money though...I'd me happy too!

On Tuesday, they came out and started cutting trees back.

1732816155262.png

I had called them a couple years ago to see if they would cut my trees under the wires but they said it was the cable company's problem since the electric wires are the top ones. I ended up paying a guy to cut some of our trees back but I'm still glad they came Tuesday because there are a lot of trees on our road that need attention.

Then the cleanup began...

It's nice having a lot of equipment.

I bought my Son-in-Law a toilet yesterday for Christmas. Kind of a weird present but I get it. I'm just glad he's taking care of my daughter and Granddaughter.

I got him a Kohler, my personal fav. They have the "Ready Lock" system which I feel is a good system.

1732817271012.png

Instead of the toilet porcelain sitting on the flange, a plastic piece is bolted to the flange first. You can see the flange, wax ring, and plastic piece as you bolt them all together as opposed to a normal toilet where you set the toilet on the wax ring and hope it's lined up correctly.

1732817430440.png

Then you set the toilet onto the plastic piece.

1732817694278.png

It doesn't show it in the above picture very well but part of the porcelain S Trap fits into the plastic piece and seals with a rubber diaphragm. The base of these Ready Lock toilets is very wide and stable. This toilet will not rock and I believe they probably won't leak for a very long time. I have installed 3 of them in our house so far. 2 more toilets and our house will be done.

So.... I needed to be productive today so I didn't think about how my Thanksgiving celebration DIDN'T go yesterday. It has taken me 400 years today to get this little bit done. I may have put holes innthe drywall of my half bathroom as the drywall is in terrible shape. I had a hard time cutting the copper pipes but finally got it all fixed. Now I need to cut some drywall to go around that plastic box. I put a piece of 2x4 on each side so I would have a better surface to be sturdy around the box. That pex makes it super wobbly in general. It came with braces but I think I am going to modify them and make them shorter so that the drywall isn't sticking out. That old metal outlet box was a pain in the rear end to get out. Absolutely ridiclous, but i won.

I think that I am about 1-1.5" too low with the waher outlet box, but i needed to turn the water back on. I wish I had thought to get shut off valves going from copper to pex in the event I had to change that box for whatever reason..... I didn't think about it though.

I am so glad that I had the washer and the dryer outlets changed out last year. Someone in the past SPLICED the wire on the dryer cord and look at how it's burnt and melted20241130_154857.jpg20241130_155008.jpg
And then I found this outlet hole in the bottom plate, I assume that they just mismeasured where the washer outlet pipe would be.... but rats/mice don't need easy access so I cut a piece of 2x4 and screwed it overtop of it.20241130_172320.jpg

Idk how many gallons of water are under the house, but there are. There was no water coming out of any spigot, etc a drip in the bathtub. But when I cut into the copper pipes there was a steady stream.... I was very irritated while I was trying to get the pipe cute so I could put it all back together. I think I will see if Menards has an access door that will fit there so I can check it a couple of times a year.

What can I do to protect this wire and myself/others? It comes up between the bottom plate and the floor/subfloor.Screenshot_20241130_180508_Gallery.jpg

Today has kicked my butt.... unfortunately I still need to go pull drywall off the wall to fix the rat problem. It has super easy access currently.
I have actually only seen a rat once since the trap went off, he walked around dazed and confused. I don't remember if I told that or not. I'll have to go back and look.
Well... I am going to rest my back for a few more minutes and then get busy again, if I can.

One more thing....

What is this piece called so I can go get another one. It goes over the washer outlet pipe.

This is my solution for the wall that has the bathtub on the other side of it. (Rat coming up through there i believe)

I need to take the long piece of OSB off and cut a few inches off, but I just can't physically do anymore today... so I screwed them together for now. If the rat can find his way into a crevice between 2x4s on the far right, he can climb up the osb and through that hole at the end.

I've had enough today... my washer and dryer are sitting in the kitchen.... both with clothes in them because he didn't finish his laundry last night, and I am a jerk 🙃😑🙄🤷‍♀️. I will have to try to peacemaker some drywall together tomorrow. I found an access panel that fits that spot perfectly i believe, I just have to put drywall up. Part of me would like to put up the wood version of beadboard, but that seems silly.
I'm relaxing and looking on the TV for some sort of entertainment before I go to bed.

Hill street blues & NYPD BLUE are available.
I used to watch those all the time.
I have started watching a few new series.
LANDMAN, coroner, Cross (haven't started that one but Alex Cross is my favorite book character) I'm not super hopeful it will be a good show. , I also watch Homestead Rescue, multiple YouTube channels, I found a new season of Hoarders last night (my all time favorite show). I used to watch NCIS, but I haven't watched that in years and they have several franchises. There's more but that's all I can think of.

Checkout NCIS Origins... The start of Agent Gibbs... It's real good.

@shan2themax you did a lot of work and it’s looking fabulous! That washer box is a great improvement. There should be some plastic L pieces for it that fasten on the sides of the box so you can secure the washer box to the studs on either side of it. The Sheetrock goes right on top of the plastic L pieces. You did a great job with the plumbing.

Ruby bought a Cat house for her outdoor cats (not the kittens). It came in a zillion pieces.

1733023750596.jpeg

Anyway, it looks like this all assembled.

Ruby put some heating pads in there for the cats. The Cat House is on a covered patio, so it’s outside but somewhat protected.

She was worried they would be afraid to use it so I had to install a spy camera so Ruby can see them.

How do you keep cats from scratching the arms of sofas?
I keep them out of the room with the sofa. LOL.
Other than that, I don't have much luck keeping them out of or off of things. They are starting to learn the "no cats on counters" thing, but I have to say it to remind them if I catch them on the counter. I will point at them and gesture for them to move and some will jump down. Others only need me to say "No cats on counters" and they get down. Still others need me to touch them very lightly on their back legs to get them to move. Speaking of cats, Bethesda just climbed on my lap and sneezed in my face.

I bet that electric company worker got paid overtime for having to work on the weekend. Glad you got your power fixed.

Shan, Yeesh, that wire being melted is not good at all. Steel wool packed into that hole might help. They sell conduit you could put some of the wires through. That fitting looks like a reducer hub or something. Supposedly HD now has a feature where you can take a picture and it will try to identify what it is. I think that might be with the app. I've never tried it.

Last few days I've been exhausted. Wednesday we grabbed some stuff at Walmart-- they had lunchmeat on sale. Had lunchmeat for Thanksgiving. I was too tired to do much on turkey day. Friday I went to samsclub for curbside pickup. Saturday was litterboxes, taking out trash, and going for early voting. Took Mom with me so she could bring in her mail-in-ballot. She doesn't trust USPS with it and I wanted her to get some exercise. She got a tour of the house friend is trying to buy. I brought over a tool for him and returned a tupperware container from some deviled eggs his wife made. Mom ate all of them. LOL.

Had to change Mom's cartridge, cannula, and Dexcom sensor all the same day.

Cats had a fight near my computer and did something that made it so the speakers weren't working. I had to change where they plugged in to get them working again. So I couldn't hear any of my alarms going off.

Fixed now. I asked my brother to feed the cats since my back is hurting but I don't know if he did and will have to check.

Minor gripe: Trash was overflowing from the trash can and rather than do the ONE chore he's assigned, he just compacted the trash into the can as much as he could so getting that bag out of the trash can was a total pita. My back is hurting bc of it.

About to fall back asleep since its after midnight now.

The original washer box was ridiculous to get off. They put nails in the top of it to install it. I didn't think I would ever get the thing pried off. I had a hard time with the last rusted screw also.

That cat condo reminds me of a miniature chicken coop. Lol, looks great.

So..... I am awake, my back is very angry. But now I have to deal with the aftermath of yesterday. So these 2 rooms need to get fixed today. Then I suppose that I will just have to be done for the rest of my days off while my back rests, so I can be ok at work.

Now that the laundry room is empty you can better see where I wanted to rearrange. I wanted to put the W/D on the wall that has the OSB, instead of the wall with the plumbing. I am standing in the doorway taking the picture (for reference). It would be much roomier and less cramped feeling. The problem is that (at least with my last W/D) it won't quite let you have a 4" vent hose. I haven't tried the configuration with this new set or since I had the Jack's installed, so maybe I will remeasure everything today while I have it cleared out.

I'm off to finish enjoying some youtube videos to get me motivated and my back relaxed....

If you haven't watched her channel, go watch Tia Weston. She is remodeling her $1 house. Start at the beginning though for best effect. This mornings episode is week 17.

Shan, if you can cut pipe below in the basement or crawl space to put a Drain on that other side, moving the water supply by extending the Pex will be real easy.
