The eight million Chewy Dot Com boxes on the curb each recycle day are a testament to the popularity of delivery.

I suppose if one had a bunch of kids to get ready for school and a job and a significant other also with a job and after school activities to attend, delivery makes some sense.

Conversely, my parents, both working two jobs and both going to school- plus 7 kids and the stray kids they'd take in managed without delivery. And, for most of this my father was living & working in Europe, so it was mother alone. Somehow it all worked out. (Really strong & dedicated parents!)

What I don't like about delivery is the possibility of questionable price and quality. An acquaintance who works at Kroger supermarket as an order picker told me they are instructed to select the oldest dates & oldest produce for delivery orders.
Plus, the prices are higher at Kroger with delivery than in the store.

I don't know if these hold true for other stores. (Actually, I'm really picky about produce. I'm the guy in everyone else's way while I check every head of lettuce.)
Walmart pickers are supposed to select the furthest out dated item they can find. Now the shop and deliver people might not pay attention. I personally inspect all fresh fruits/veggies, and inspected meat packages and dates.

When my dog was alive, I bought from Chewy all the time. But this place is states away, and sells great products. Unlike driving to the local WalMart, only blocks away, and trusting others to pick my products. Nope!

For the world's safest dog food- Home Made with Organic ingredients. My 13 year old dog buddy who has energy and alertness as though he is going on 3 years old (with blood panel results of a 4 year old) is a testament to home cooking.

For fantastic and carefully developed dog and cat treats, Jewel's Pet Cuisine is amazing. The owner, Coleen, actually asked the state to send health inspectors to periodically inspect their facilities in order to ensure they meet or exceed human food standards. It's a great family owned very small business. (And they created a shampoo that instantly solved my precious pooch's years long fight with relentless itching, scaling and skin infections. All using natural ingredients.)

If you've ever the time, check them out and read a bit about their passion: https://jewelspetcuisine.com/
(They ship by mail)

I have a friend who is certified in food safety. She goes into hundreds of places a year, since health inspectors are hard to find. So basically. You pay, you get health certificates.

My friend was in California so I don't know if they had any of the older style cars as rentals. He did say the car got great mileage though.

Yesterday I was hit with fatigue hard and couldn't stay awake.

Today I changed mom's insulin cartridge, went to the pharmacy and got them to remove the offending med from my list and updated my allergies-- their system had sulfa antibiotics only as prohibited. So now it says all sulfa drugs.

Flowers are blooming again so pollen is in the air and I've been sneezing.

Meanwhile, saw this on Antiques Roadshow and looked it up because this turtle carving is amazing. Pity the artist died at 41yrs old.

For whatever reason, when I was reading this i though of you, and then when I saw sulfa allergy it reminded me I had read this a few weeks ago

Figured out a Pizza trick last night. I decided to use 00 Flour with Semolina, which made a NY Style ultra thin foldable pie. It was about as thick as a Fork handle. Using AP flour with Semolina results in a much puffier crust.

Granted, my Yeast isn't working, the Dough isn't rising or whatever, so I will have to re-create both versions in the Summer. I also used Fresh Mozz, basically a big block of String Cheese is all it is. I have never used it, always opting for the bagged shreds, which I don't see myself buying again. The Fresh is like Magic...

One more Pizza in my Winter trial before quitting until warmer weather, I'm going to double the recipe of 00 Flour and Semolina and see if it's a more manageable crust, like thick as Pita bread.

By coincidence, I know one of the state's inspectors who examined Jewell's. (That's how I learned of it)
She said "I'd let my toddler play on those floors!" To me, that's a good testament.

That facility also even has a procedural manual so no safety or handling steps are ever omitted. It sounds like they follow a protocol similar to HACCP. I trust the products, as do some veterinarians with whom I've spoken.

As far as paying to get a certificate, it's quite different in Michigan. The inspectors for restaurants work for the county directly (or city in the case of Detroit). They look for primarily food storage safety and overall cleanliness. The fee for restaurants is part of the annual licensing charge. And they do shut restaurants down often- sometimes permanently as was the recent case of a local pizza restaurant.

Those for people food manufacturing are employed at the state or federal level.
The pet food people invited and convinced the state to send an inspector to evaluate the facility and procedures. I guess it was a challenge since pet food is not regulated in Michigan. They also pay the state for the routine follow-up inspections that they wish to have. Now they have to comply with people food manufacturing- what they wanted.

Sounds goo to me!

As one with sulfa allergy, watch food & beverage sources carefully. I learned the hard way a few times. (Head looked like the scariest hallowen pumpkin ever!)

For me, a trigger is small amount of the sulfa in white onions. Sometimes shrimp is packed in sulfa or penicillin to protect it. That caused me a problem more than once. Sometimes too much egg yolk can cause a reaction. (2 eggs is too much for me)

Some people are concurrently allergic to sulfa, sulfites and slufates, although different products all together. I never checked the mechanism of action, but I can't get near those things. (No white wine, that's for sure!)

And, some pharmaceuticals without sulfa are not to be taken by people with sulfa allergies. With every new prescription, it's wise to check on this. (I first learned this from my sister who is a pharmaceutical scientist. Later a physician wrote a drug for me and the N.P. caught it in time.)

Look at the link that I put in my last post replying to Zannej. You might find that interesting.

Thanks! That was an interesting article!

It's important to note that sufur and sufa aren't the same at all.

Sulfa is a man-made compound (invented by The Bayer Group & called Prontosyl).
It is in the current Sulfonamide Group and happens to have sulfur containing molecules among the many other molecules making up the compound. (As in sulfa drugs and sulfa based preservatives.)

Conversely, Sulfur is a Creator-made element on the Periodic Table. It is in all mammals. We need it to live.

It isn't necessarily the Creator-made sulfur that causes reactions in people when they use sulfa drugs. It's the man-made concoction called a Sulfa Drug that a pharmaceutical company invented.
The sulfur is bound in one of the man-made molecules in the drug.

I can hang around elemental sulfur all day and life is grand. Sulfa, on the other hand, calls for an intervention.

We used to use elemental sulfur rocks & melt them to anchor machine base rods and such in the days before strong epoxies and anchoring cements. Although only about a 2 on the Mohs Scale before melting, it cools to become stronger than concrete.

Just got some kind of spam call spoofing a local number and it's not even 8am. I answered and asked who the eff was calling so early and they wouldn't answer. I could hear people in the background so it was some sort of call center. I proceeded to cuss the person out and then hung up. I'm a bit crabby this morning. LOL. I don't normally do that. I usually hang up but that's when they call after 8am. It's not even 7:30 yet.

Yes, i know they are seperate things.

Yes, i am aware they are 2 different things.

I was saying that her mentioning a sulfa allergy, alerted my brain to the fact that I had recently read that page about sulfur clearance and it reminded me of her symptoms, and she has well water and such.

Sorry for the confusion.

Well in all due consideration, IT'S HUMP DAY!

Nacho's sound great. Looks like this is my dinner tonight.

Don't those drive you nuts?

My favorite calls were the "We arrested your son. To get him out, post bail by sending gift card numbers to us at ..."
I'd always say: "My son? Oh, he's a brat. You can keep him."
