I just bought a new house and cannot confidently say I know where the air flow direction should be on the filter. The design of my furnace is the up flow/horizontal as indicated in the pictures attached. I’m guessing the arrow should point toward the furnace (or point up) but wanted confirmation.

The air flow goes from bottom to top. Your return duct is coming in from the right side of the air handler going through the furnace to the distribution duct coming out of the top. The filter arrow would be pointing up towards the furnace. Get a better filter than the spun fiberglass one in the picture.

Definitely step up to a MERV14 Pleated filter.

Yeah that is first on the list to replace this with a quality merv filter.

so just to be sure the arrow should be pointed upwards toward the furnace(as indicated with the arrows I drew on the image?)

Yes. the airflow goes from bottom to top.

technically, it really doesn't matter which way it goes (especially with the filter you have).

He's upgrading the filter. The only real difference on the pleated filters is the reinforcement built into the filter. The current one doesn't have a directional indication.

Thanks for your help on this! The New merv 7 filter is installed with the arrows facing the furnace! :thumb:
