Questions on replacing 20yr old flex duct

I need to replace the flex duct in my crawl space and looking for any helpful info I can get. What R value? The more the better? When to use foil tape vs mastic? Should I replace the insulation wrapped around the plenum? Thanks for your feedback!

Concrete coating that will retain original surface texture?

I recently had a sun room constructed over a newly poured raised concrete slab. The concrete has a lightly brushed surface. I want to retain the lightly roughened surface of the concrete. Is there a type of concrete coating (stain/sealer, paint or epoxy) that would not result in a smooth finish?

    Concrete flooring over wooden subfloor?

Sounds like a slab foundation would be the way to go but then I would be concerned about addressing any potential plumbing issues in the future.

    Concrete flooring over wooden subfloor?

I am considering concrete flooring in a new single story home. I am leaning to having a crawl space vs slab and was wondering if a standard wooden subfloor/joists would support a concrete floor? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

GE Dryer (model DBXR463ED2WW) does not cycle to lower temp

Hi Jeff, I described the problem incorrectly. The dryer drys at a high temp even when the temp selector is set to a low temp.

GE Dryer (model DBXR463ED2WW) does not cycle to lower temp

My GE dryer (model DBXR463ED2WW) drys at a high temp even when the temp selector is set to a low temp. Is this a thermostat prob? I have searched and found a high limit thermo and cycling thermo. Do I need to replace both of just one or is this prob from something all together different? Thanks...

Fluidmaster value turns on/off, flush valve is new also.

Dye (blue) test on both toilets resulted in light blue water in bowls, so I'll be replacing the flappers next. Question about flapper design/fit, should part of flapper that protrudes into the water outlet be the same approximate diameter as the outlet? Currently, the diameter of both flappers...

Fluidmaster value turns on/off, flush valve is new also.

Have not done the dye test yet but plan to. I did use the clip to attach the refill tube to the overflow pipe so no siphoning is taking place.

Fluidmaster value turns on/off, flush valve is new also.

Are you referring to adjusting the height of the fill value unit vertically? I have it mounted so that the ring is at least 1 inch above the overflow pipe per the instructions.

Fluidmaster value turns on/off, flush valve is new also.

I recently (2 months) replaced both fill and flush valves in 2 toilets with Fluidmaster products. A week ago I noticed both toilets fill valves are turning on even though the water level in the tank is at the full mark. (Note: the water level at the full mark is below the overflow tube.) The...

Paint stipper on exterior wood windows?

I have scrapped/sanded the exterior windows on a 50+ year old brick house in prep for painting. About 50% of the old paint has been removed down to the bare wood. If I paint the windows as they are now, the finish would not be very smooth. Would it be advisable to use a chemical paint stripper...

How to waterproof a tile bathroom floor?

I have run a bead of silicone b/w the tub base and tile floor. Pretty sure it is coming from the floor just outside the tub. I poured a small amount of water (4oz) on the floor in the suspected area and by the time I could crawl under the tub in the crawl space(apprx 5 mins), the majority of the...
